Oxford Park Commission-Park Maintenance Worker


Assists in maintaining park buildings, grounds, playgrounds and athletic fields.


Duties and Responsibilities


Supervision Received


 Supervision is provided by the Park Maintenance Superintendent


Supervision Exercised





  • Loads trucks with tools, check parks and playing fields on a daily basis
  • Mows grass at the parks and athletic fields, cleans swimming pool and moves chairs and tables and other equipment for activities
  • Make minor repairs and paints buildings when needed
  • Operates trucks, tractor, lawnmowers, welder, power saws, fields machine, line-marking machine, rake, hoe, shovel, squeegees and other equipment directed by Maintenance Superintendent
  • Maintain athletic fields in good working condition as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent
  • Collects trash, maintains bathrooms and inspects wiring and plumbing for needed repairs




  • Assists other employees when equipment is needed for special events of the park commission
  • Maintain good public relations with the community and other employees
  • Work closely with all city departments on related jobs


Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of general maintenance procedures in maintaining buildings, grounds and equipment
  • Knowledge of grounds-keeping and maintenance of athletic fields
  • Skill using grounds-keeping equipment in maintaining athletic fields in good playing condition
  • Skill in operating truck, tractor, lawnmowers, welding equipment, power saw, and Skill in making minor repairs, painting and grounds-keeping

Special Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalency recommended
  • Good Physical Condition
  • A valid driver’s license

Work Environment

The maintenance worker works regular hours with some overtime work.  Night and weekend work will sometimes be required.  95% of this job is outdoors and 5% is indoors and requires work done in all types of weather.  The stress level is moderate.
