Reserve Officer

The Oxford Police Department’s Reserve Program, under the direction of the Chief of Police, or his designee, will assist in the accomplishment of the Oxford Police Department’s goals and objectives by augmenting the personnel strength of the department by performing duties as secondary officers in patrol units during heavy work periods or periods of personnel shortages; assisting the department during large public gatherings or major events and performing other assignments as directed by the Chief of Police or his designee. The Reserve Program increases citizen involvement in law enforcement by their participation in police activities through routinely assisting with law enforcement activities.

To be considered for the position of reserve officer, you must:

Minimum of 21 years of age.

Have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED certificate. Some college education preferred.

Be a United States citizen.

Be of good physical and mental condition, and said is to be verified by a licensed medical physician of the employer's choice.

Be of good moral character as evidenced, among other things, by a review of all criminal convictions, including traffic violations, and by having neither convictions nor pleas of guilt or nolo contendere for a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.

Have the physical ability to pass a physical fitness test designed by the Oxford Police Department and administered by the Chief of Police or his designated agent, only after being deemed physically fit by a licensed medical physician of the employer's choice.

Have a valid Mississippi driver’s license.
