Buena Vista University has an opening for the Director of Advancement Operations in Storm Lake, Iowa. The director reports directly to the Vice President for University Development and Alumni Engagement (UDAE). As a member of the team, the director supports the overall direction of the division such as strategic planning, goal setting, reporting and budgeting. As a member of the senior UDAE team, the director supports efforts to create, implement, integrate, assess, and improve—on an ongoing basis—UDAE’s infrastructure and strategies required to conduct successful overall development and alumni engagement efforts.
This position requires strong managerial and motivational skills, the ability to train, mentor, and develop a staff of three, and participate collaboratively as a member of the UDAE leadership team. The director is responsible for the design and execution of the annual advancement operation’s plan that will help achieve the division’s development and alumni engagement goals.
The Director of Advancement Operations must be both a strong team-builder and team member who is goal oriented, skilled in decision making, ethical, adept at data collection and analysis, able to provide budget oversight for expenditures, and effective in oral and written communications. Director must have encompassing knowledge of development practices, donor data processes, and fundraising techniques including current best practices in development, annual giving, membership management, and alumni engagement.

Additional qualifications include ten years or more of progressively responsible professional experience with strong preference for candidates with previous fundraising database management experience in higher education or non-profit organizations.
